How the lab systems connect
The big picture — one lab account signs you into most services, a few keep their own login, and how password recovery works.
The lab runs its own services, tied together so you mostly deal with one account. This page is the mental model — what shares your lab login, what doesn’t, and how the pieces fit. (It’s the member’s-eye view; nothing here is sensitive.)
The one-account idea
You have one NUILab account — a username (f.lastname) and password. You sign in once at the
lab’s sign-in page, and that unlocks most of the lab’s apps. A few systems keep their own separate
login (on purpose), and chat is the one you already had.
What shares your lab account
Sign in once and these all accept the same username + password (what you see depends on your role in the lab):
- Dashboard (opens in new tab) — your app launcher; start here.
- Files (opens in new tab) + Archive (opens in new tab) — shared lab storage.
- Member Docs (opens in new tab) — the members-only how-to site.
- Git (opens in new tab) — code hosting; sign in with the Sign in with NUILab button (Git guide ).
- Inventory (opens in new tab) — lab equipment.
- Systems (opens in new tab) — read-only status of the lab’s machines.
- Lab machines — the same account logs you into the computers you’ve been granted (over SSH).
What keeps its own login (on purpose)
A few things stay separate — that’s a deliberate design choice, not an oversight:
- Chat (opens in new tab) (Mattermost) — you already have this; it’s unchanged.
- Metrics (opens in new tab) (Beszel) — a small, separate read-only login, given out with your account if you have it.
- Sign (opens in new tab) (DocuSeal) — signing a document needs no account (you get an emailed link); only people who create documents get an account.
Passwords & recovery
- Change your password: pwd.nuilab.org (opens in new tab) — one change updates everything (apps + SSH).
- Forgot it / locked out? reset.nuilab.org (opens in new tab) — enter your username or email, and a one-time reset link is sent to both your email and Mattermost (whichever you can get to). The link is good for 20 minutes.
- Setting up two-factor and detailed sign-in steps: Your NUILab account .
