Microsoft HoloLens

The lab runs a large HoloLens 2 fleet, so the serial is the only practical way to tell one unit from another once the asset labels start wearing off. Check the serial against the asset tag when you check a unit out.

HoloLens 2

In the headset: put it on and go to Start → Settings → System → About. The device serial number is on that screen, along with the device name and OS build.

On the hardware: flip the visor up and look underneath, near the brow pad and close to the hinge — the label is printed there.

From a PC: the HoloLens exposes the Windows Device Portal over USB or Wi-Fi (enable it in Settings → Update & Security → For developers). Its home page reports the device name and hardware details, which is the fastest route when you’re identifying several units in a row without wearing each one.

Same Settings path — Settings → System → About. The printed label is under the visor as well; lift it and look at the inner surface of the brow.

Model field

Use HoloLens 2 or HoloLens — not the part number on the label, and not “HoloLens v2”.

Practical notes

• Wipe the visor and brow pad before you go poking at the label; these get handled by everyone.
• If a unit is enrolled and you can’t sign in, don’t factory-reset it to read a serial — the printed label under the visor is right there, and a reset loses the enrollment.
